10 HR Job Interviewee Tips

One of the functions of Human Resource is doing a Job Interview. The job interview is an important part of the Recruitment and Selection process where wise decision-making is made. This is a phase of interrogation and conversation trying to discover or to know much about the job applicant professionally and even personally in order for HR to have a clear framework for shortlisting a candidate.

Here are some useful tips that might add to your chances of employment:

1.   Research the Organization

Find information regarding the company you are applying for. Doing this will give you intellectual questions for HR at the end of the interview. It can be done easily by surfing on the internet. Profile the company by skimming its company statement/mission, vision, goals, objectives, history, career or status, and most importantly the location. Correct directions to the interview site will get you to the interview beforehand.

2.    Conduct Self-Assessment

First, you must know yourself. Reflect yourself by stating your purpose in the position and think of some of the contributions you can make based on your Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA). Differentiating yourself from other applicants is very crucial because it is your passport to get on to the interview like making your own cover/application letter and résumé.

3.   Bring Peace of Mind

Get enough rest. Get used to sleeping not late at night. This will help you think straightforwardly in answering interview questions with convictions. Besides, it will prevent you from being late. Arrive early at least 15-30 minutes before the schedule.

4.   Practice the Job talk

Keep the talk very simple. Study the possible questions that might an HR would like to ask. Practice a mock job interview at home, or anywhere you consider to be your comfort zone, with the help of your family member or any persons you can turn to. Rehearse your answer by speaking loud and clear with a proper posture. This will help you boost your confidence to be able to answer any possible questions might an HR would raise in the interview. Answer positively; turn the weakness into a positive and strictly no bad-mouthing.

5.   Organize the Employment Kit

Prepare extra copies of your résumé, transcripts, diploma, certifications, and other credentials. The kind that you will submit to HR should be enclosed in a brown/plain folder. Your picture must be on a white background; a round-neck top dress on it is not appropriate. Make sure it is presentable.

6.   Look Good

Assemble your interview attire. Choose them carefully. Lasting impressions do count within the first 10 seconds of the meeting. Dress appropriately by wearing neatly and conservatively. Keep it simple.

7.   Formulate Questions

Ask some friendly questions that show HR that you are interested in the company. It may be based on the research you have done in profiling the company or based on the information you hear during the interview.

8.   Show Enthusiasm

It would be good to sincerely thank HR for such an opportunity. If you walk in, ask the HR’s or interviewer’s/s name/s. Appear eager and positive by making the best entrance to the interview room. Smile eventually when you talk.

9.   Be Attentive

Listen carefully. Understand the questions clearly before answering. Don’t be afraid to ask again the question being asked by HR if you honestly don’t get the line. Make sure you engage an eye to eye contact.

10.  Be a Man

Relax. Be honest about yourself but it is fine to white lies in the interview as long as you can prove it when you are already inside the organization. Whatever happen stand by your own expense on whatever may cost.
